Retailer will hold its 'National Signing Day' event on Tuesday to recruit seasonal employees

Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. said Thursday that it plans to hire nearly 8,000 seasonal workers for this year's holiday season.

That's fewer than the 8,600 seasonal hires it announced a year ago.

The company cited lower employee turnover which has caused it to reduce its seasonal hiring for its stores.

The Pittsburgh-based retailer said it's holding its yearly "National Signing Day" on Tuesday to begin its holiday recruiting efforts for positions at its Dick's Sporting Goods, Public Lands, Dick's House of Sport and Going, Going, Gone! stores in the U.S.

Dick's said it will close its stores and distribution centers on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, although online shopping will continue.

Stores will reopen on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

Dick's said employee departures have been falling steadily since 2021.

Dick's Sporting Goods' stock (DKS) fell 0.1% on Thursday.

The stock has has risen 39.5% in 2024, outpacing the 19.6% year-to-date gain of the S&P 500 .
