Uniper to Sell Coal-Fired Power Plant in Germany
By Christian Moess Laursen
Uniper launched a sales process for its coal-fired power plant Datteln 4 in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in accordance with European Commission state-aid terms.
The German energy company said Monday that parties interested in the 1,052-megatwatt plant can submit offers no later than Oct. 18.
In 2022, Uniper avoided insolvency thanks to Germany state support after it had incurred multi-billion-euro costs to procure new gas for its customers following Russia's decision to throttle deliveries to Europe.
In December that year, the European Commission approved state aid of around 13.5 billion euros ($15.07 billion) to Uniper contingent on the company divesting some assets.
