AP&T Wins the Southeast Conference “Business of the Year Award” for 2024
Alaska Power & Telephone Company (AP&T) is proud to announce that it has been selected as “Business of the Year” by Southeast Conference, the federally-designated Economic Development District for the southeast Alaska region. The award recognizes “extraordinary leadership and investment in innovative projects in Southeast Alaska,” and follows a busy decade of clean energy and broadband initiatives undertaken in numerous communities throughout the region.
Southeast Conference was incorporated prior to Alaska Statehood in 1958 to promote development of a regional transportation system that would become the Alaska Marine Highway System. Since that time, it has grown to encompass over 185 member organizations and individuals, including most of the region’s municipalities, chamber of commerce organizations, federally-recognized tribes, major employers, government agencies, and others.
AP&T CEO Bill Marks stated: “The SE Conference Business of the Year award is one of the highest honors that an Alaska-based business like ours can receive, and we are truly grateful and honored. Our company could not have achieved the success it has found over the years without the support and collaboration we have received from tribes, Alaska native corporations, municipalities, nonprofits, government agencies, elected officials, subcontractors, and — of course — the hard-working men and women at AP&T. This award truly belongs to all of us, and AP&T looks forward to continuing to collaborate for the good of the communities we serve.”
Southeast Conference works to catalyze economic development in sectors including transportation, energy, the marine industry, seafood, the visitor industry, and more. It recently was selected as the recipient of a $38.6m US EPA grant to install heat pumps in numerous southeast Alaska communities, including various AP&T service areas.
