Now a billionaire, here's where Selena Gomez puts her real estate money

By Claudine Zap

Inside the star's real estate portfolio

"Only Murders in the Building" star Selena Gomez, who is also an entrepreneur and a singer, can add one more title to her list of accomplishments: billionaire.

The star is worth a jaw-dropping $1.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, where she is ranked for the first time.

The vast amount of the wealth appears to come from her cosmetics line, Rare Beauty Brands Inc., which she launched five years ago. The 32-year-old is one of the youngest billionaires on the list.

Asked about her new-found 10-figure status, Gomez told Entertainment Tonight" "I'm very grateful," but added, "I personally think it's distasteful to talk about money, but I really am giving all the credit to people who buy the products."

The one-time Disney (DIS) star, pop singer, and actress also has amassed quite the property portfolio during her time in the limelight.

Encino, Calif.

In 2020, the singer snagged fellow musician's Tom Petty's former SoCal estate for $4.9 million.

The 9,000-square-foot property was custom-built in 1989. Though Petty, a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, moved out after his divorce in 1996, his spirit can be found in the recording studio and a sunken performance space-elements Gomez likely appreciates.

The five-bedroom mansion with soaring ceilings and a gourmet kitchen features a rockin' lower level that includes a wine cellar, gym, massage room, creative work area, kitchen, vocal booth, den, and guest suite.

Woodland Hills, Calif.

The pop star also owns a sweet spot in Woodland Hills, Calif. She purchased the property in 2017 for $1.8 million, property records show. Located on a tree-lined street, the four-bedroom, four-bath, 3,500-square-foot property offers details like hardwood floors, a wood-burning fireplace in the living room, and lots of natural light. The modern kitchen boasts Wolf appliances and quartz counters, while the family room offers a home theater, wood-beamed ceilings, and built-ins.

The lovely primary retreat has a large walk-in closet, fireplace, and spa-inspired bath with a rainfall shower and a jetted tub.

Set on a half-acre, the property has a pool, fire pit, and an outdoor kitchen.

Past properties

Studio City, Calif.

After purchasing the 3,188-square-foot, three-bedroom home in 2017 for $2.24 million, Gomez almost immediately changed her mind. She placed the house back on the market in 2018 for $2.79 million and again in 2019. Then, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, she sheltered in place in this chic spot, posting cooking shots from her cute kitchen on social media.

Then, in August 2020, she relisted the pad for $2,395,000. It sold a month later for $2,368,000.

The warm and posh home features herringbone-patterned brick floors, privacy hedges, and white wood. Inside there's wide-plank oak flooring and updated lighting.

An open kitchen, media space, a library with a fireplace, and a casual dining room are ideal for entertaining guests. The backyard comes with a kitchen, dining area, pool, and guesthouse.

Calabasas, Calif.

In 2015, the "Wizards of Waverly Place" alum put a Calabasass, Calif., crib on the market for almost $4.5 million. She'd bought the place in 2014 for $3.7 million and was apparently looking for a quick return on her short-term investment.

The custom abode on 3 acres has five bedrooms, five fireplaces, a chef's kitchen with a breakfast nook, a formal dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows, an outdoor courtyard, a theater, a gym, and a guesthouse. But it didn't have enough privacy. The swanky spot had problems with intruders, which probably led to Gomez's decision to sell it in 2016, agreeing to the sum of $3.3 million.

Tarzana, Calif.

In 2011, while still a teen, Gomez's parents, through a trust, reportedly picked up a San Fernando Valley home, where the young star lived for a time. The five-bedroom, 7.5-bath property spanning 6,630 square feet was completely remodeled. The dwelling sits on under an acre filled with outdoor amenities such as a pool, full basketball court, bocce court, pergola, and even an orchard.

It came on the market for $3.495 million in 2014 and sold for $3.45 million.

Fort Worth, Texas

The Texas native owned property in Fort Worth. She picked up a sprawling property in 2015 as a spot to stay while she visited family, but she didn't hang on to it long. She listed the home in early 2016 for $3.5 million, before taking it off the market shortly thereafter.

In 2018, she relisted the 10,000-square-foot mansion once more, this time for $3 million. It was reduced to $2.7 million months later, and the home was finally sold.

Set on 1.5 acres, the stone-clad mansion offers a range of impressive amenities, including an open living area and entertainment features such as a home theater, a game room with a wet bar, a crafts room, and coffee bar.

The lush grounds include a lagoon-shaped saltwater pool, putting green, sport court, and two garages.

NYC rental, hold the "Murders"

On the first season of her show "Only Murders in the Building," the actress went full method and reportedly moved into a New York City apartment rental. Located in the quiet Upper East Side, little is known about the actual unit. But that's apparently part of the charm.

She told Rolling Stone that she enjoys the anonymity the city affords her.

"I have my system there," she revealed. "I have my workouts there, I have my coffee spots there. I get to walk and breathe there and be inspired by New York City and the people and the life there."
