Jim Carrey takes another try at selling L.A. mansion, this time for $19.75 million

By Charlie Lankston

This is the fourth time in two years he's lowered the price of the Brentwood property

Jim Carrey is renowned for his comedic timing and hilarious on-screen appearances-but it's doubtful the funnyman is feeling very festive after knocking an additional $2.15 million off the price of his Los Angeles mansion, marking the fourth time he has slashed the price in less than two years.

Carrey, 62, originally put the five-bedroom, nine-bathroom estate on the market in February 2023 with a sky-high listing price of $28.9 million. Despite the property's glitzy celebrity ties and picture-perfect amenities, it failed to garner much interest, prompting the "Bruce Almighty" star to lower the ask to $26.5 million just two months later.

Yet again, no luck.

So, Carrey offered a new deal in October of that same year, bringing the price down to $23.95 million in the hopes that someone (anyone?) might bite, only to be met with further disappointment.

Perhaps keen to see if a different tactic might work, the actor decided to relist the home in May 2024, this time for $21.9 million, allowing it to sit on the market for four months before once again reevaluating his expectations.

Clearly, Carrey has decided that the real estate rut he's in has gone beyond a joke, and the home has once again been relisted, this time for $19.75 million, the New York Post first reported.

Still, don't feel too bad for the "Dumb and Dumber" star, who still stands to make a sizable profit on the $3.8 million he purchased the home for in 1994.

Strangely, it's hard to understand why the property hasn't found a buyer, given its enviable location in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood, its beautiful lush gardens, and its light-filled open-plan layout.

There is also plenty of privacy afforded to residents, courtesy of the 280 feet of hedged frontage that blocks the home from public view. Behind that sits a 2-acre lot on which the home is situated.

Inside, there is a massive great room with wide doorways, brick and hardwood floors, and tons of windows and skylights.

A chef's kitchen with a center island and a darling bay window awaits nearby. Meals can be served in the curved breakfast nook or formal dining room, which boasts sleek wood accents.

The primary suite is also an aesthetic gem, with a wood-accented bathroom. It also features a private balcony overlooking the backyard, which has a lighted tennis court and a gazebo. The outdoor space includes a waterfall pool and spa, a guesthouse with a wet bar, a sauna, and a steam room, exuding a resortlike feel.

The additional bedrooms are equally nice, with sitting areas, tall ceilings, and recessed lighting.

Six fireplaces in total create a cozy atmosphere.

One particularly striking room is the art deco theater, which showcases a popcorn concession room, mohair fabric walls, and burl wood columns.

Additional amenities include a large gym, an outdoor yoga and meditation platform, and a laundry room. The property comes with central air, an attached three-car garage, and solar panels.

Carrey has owned the property for three decades now, having purchased it the same year that he shot to fame while starring in the hit movie "Ace Venture: Pet Detective." He went on to enjoy further on-screen success in "The Mask" and "Dumb and Dumber," both of which were released in that same year.

Perhaps it's no surprise he wanted to treat himself to a new home.

In the years since, the actor has amassed an estimated net worth of around $180 million, according to various reports. In 2022, he announced his plans to retire from acting once and for all, claiming that "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" would be his final film.

Still, he couldn't resist the allure of the beloved video game character, and in early 2024 it was revealed that he would come out of retirement to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik for the third installment of the franchise.
