U.S. Futures Slip, European Stocks Mostly Flat
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.3% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.2%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 was flat in morning trading. Ubisoft Entertainment added 7.4% and Amplifon climbed 2.9%. On the other hand, Thyssenkrupp sunk 4%, and Alten slipped 3.5%. The FTSE 100 added 0.1%. Other stocks in Europe were mixed as France's CAC 40 was flat and Germany's DAX fell 0.1%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 97.19.
In commodities, Brent crude gained 0.3% to $78.28 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 0.5% to $74.75 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 1.3% to 40.44 euros a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 3 basis points to 2.245% from 2.214%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury climbed by 4 basis points to 4.001% from 3.962%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were up as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 1.8%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.1%. Markets in China were closed.
