U.S. Soybean Export Inspections Surge

By Kirk Maltais

Export inspections of U.S. soybean exports surged for the week ended Oct. 3 - more than doubling last week's total.

In its latest weekly report, the Department of Agriculture said that soybean export inspections totaled 1.43 million metric tons - more than double the 682,852 tons reported last week. But the total is only slightly higher than the 1.4 million tons reported at this time last year.

Corn and wheat inspections fell below totals from the previous week. Corn inspections totaled 933,274 tons and wheat inspections were 363,460 tons - down from 1.15 million tons and 550,935 tons, respectively. Both were higher for the week than reported at this time last year.

Korea was the leading destination for U.S. wheat for the week, the USDA says. Mexico was the leading destination for corn, and China was the leading destination for soybeans.

Most-active grain futures on the CBOT are mixed in morning trading - with most-active corn up 0.2%, while soybeans are unchanged and wheat is up 0.7%.
