In this newly created role, Mr. Lee oversees the Company’s Investment and Asset Management functions, including sourcing and underwriting new growth opportunities, as well as evaluating and capitalizing on opportunities to add value to its existing portfolio. BioMed currently operates 16 million square feet of assets and has 2.5 million square feet of in-process development across the six core life science markets in the United States and United Kingdom. Mr. Lee is based at the Company’s San Diego headquarters reporting to Tim Schoen, Chief Executive Officer of BioMed Realty.
“We are thrilled to welcome John to our executive team at BioMed Realty,” Mr. Schoen said. “John’s extensive experience in real estate investment and asset management will be invaluable in supporting BioMed Realty’s efforts to grow and enhance the value of our portfolio as we work with the Blackstone team to benefit our investors, tenants and communities we serve.”
“I am honored to join BioMed Realty during such a significant time in the Company’s history as it enters its third decade,” Mr. Lee said. “With continued expansion of the life science industry backed by growing funding sources and long-term secular tailwinds of an aging population, now is an exciting time to become part of the experienced team as we advance its mission to provide critical infrastructure for our tenants.”
Mr. Lee most recently served as Executive Vice President, Portfolio Manager at PIMCO, where he served as the Global Head of Asset Management across PIMCO’s opportunistic real estate private equity and private debt businesses. He joins BioMed Realty with more than 20 years of leadership experience across the areas of investment and asset management in the global commercial real estate sector.
Prior to joining PIMCO in 2013, Mr. Lee was an executive for several years within the private real estate group at Canyon Partners, after holding investment positions with O’Connor Capital Partners, Trammell Crow Company, and Bain and Company. Mr. Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business-Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.
