Take-Two shares rise on announcement of 'Borderlands 4' release in 2025

By Connor Hart

Take-Two Interactive Software (TTWO) will release "Borderlands 4" next year.

The New York video game developer said Tuesday the game marks the fourth mainline title and seventh overall entry in the looter-shooter franchise, which has sold more than 87 million copies.

"Borderlands 4" will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The announcement comes after Take-Two in June acquired Gearbox Entertainment, the creator of the "Borderlands" and "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands" franchises, from Sweden's Embracer Group for $460 million in stock. At that time, Take-Two said a new "Borderlands" game was in development.

The first teaser for the game, released Tuesday afternoon, previewed an all-new planet. The game will allow players to "once again assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they search for secret alien treasure while blasting everything in sight." the company said.

Shares rose 2.9% to $154.81 on Tuesday, gaining after the release of the teaser trailer.
