U.S. Futures Slip, European Stocks Mixed
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.2% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 dropped 0.1% in morning trading. Covestro rose 3.5% and Worldline climbed 2.7%. On the other hand, Greggs PLC sunk 4.5%, and A.P. Moeller-Maersk B lost 2.3%. The FTSE 100 was flat. Other stocks in Europe were mixed as France's CAC 40 declined 0.5% and Germany's DAX rose 0.1%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index climbed 0.2% to 95.79.
In commodities, Brent crude dropped 1% to $70.98 a barrel, and WTI crude dropped 1.1% to $67.45 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 1.8% to 38.35 euros a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield declined by 3 basis points to 2.095% from 2.129%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 2 basis points to 3.768% from 3.787%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were up as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 1.9%, whereas markets in Hong Kong were closed. Markets in China were closed.
