Communications services companies rose amid deal activity.
DirecTV is in advanced talks to acquire its satellite-TV rival Dish, The Wall Street Journal reported, in a deal that could create one of the country's largest pay-TV distributors after decades of aborted attempts to combine.
Comcast's European pay-TV company Sky sued Warner Bros Discovery, accusing the entertainment giant of violating an agreement that gave Sky long-term exclusive rights to shows including a new "Harry Potter" television series.
