John Deere Faces Tractor Recall Due to Crash Hazard

By Don Nico Forbes

John Deere is recalling more than 150,000 tractors due to reports of brake failures leading to crashes.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said about 147,900 compact utility tractors--models 1023E, 1025R, and 2025R--are being recalled in the U.S., in addition to about 16,800 in Canada.

It said the tractors' front bell crank in the brake linkage can fail, causing brake failure and resulting in a crash hazard.

The agricultural vehicle maker received four reports of the brake failures, including one hospitalization and two impact injuries, the CPSC said.

It added that customers should stop using the recalled tractors immediately and contact an authorized John Deere dealer for a free repair.
