Netherlands Lowers Total Borrowing Requirement for 2024

By Emese Bartha

The Netherlands' total borrowing requirement for 2024 is now expected to be 70.7 billion euros ($78.90 billion), down 7.9 billion euros from previous estimates, the Dutch State Treasury Agency said Friday.

The review follows the Dutch government's presentation of the 2025 Budget Memorandum on Sept. 17. Having taken these figures into account, the DSTA updated its funding needs for 2024, it says, expecting a lower deficit than previously communicated.

The downward revision is mainly due to underspending, as well as higher-than-expected tax revenues, it said.

The DSTA also plans two government bond auctions in the fourth quarter, scheduled for Oct. 8 and Nov. 12, respectively.
