Google Ireland Faces Probe Over Data-Protection Compliance Before AI-Model Development
By Connor Hart
Ireland's Data Protection Commission has commenced an inquiry into Google Ireland regarding whether or not the search company's unit complied with data-protection obligations prior to the development of one of its artificial-intelligence models.
"A Data Protection Impact Assessment, where required, is of crucial importance in ensuring that the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals are adequately considered and protected when processing of personal data is likely to result in a high risk," the DPC said Thursday.
The DPC said its inquiry is part of a wide effort, in conjunction with its European Union and European Economic Area peers, to regulate the processing of the personal data in the development of AI models and systems.
