Norfolk Southern Reaches Tentative Agreements With Five More Unions
By Denny Jacob
Norfolk Southern said it reached tentative, five-year collective bargaining agreements with five more labor unions, adding to the tentative agreements reached with four other unions last week.
The railroad operator said on Friday that the nine agreements together cover about 55% of its unionized workforce and come four months before the next collective bargaining round begins.
Norfolk said its most recent agreements include the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and Blacksmiths and the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers.
The company said it also separately reached tentative agreements with the American Train Dispatchers Association, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division, and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers -- Transportation Division Yardmasters.
Norfolk said that, among other benefits, the tentative agreements provide a 3.5% average wage increase per year over the next five years.
