A.O. Smith Names Stephen Shafer President, Chief Operating Officer

A.O. Smith has hired former 3M executive Stephen Shafer as president and chief operating officer of the maker of residential and commercial water-heating equipment.
A.O. Smith on Monday said Shafer will lead the Milwaukee, Wisc., company's global business units, including operations, engineering and information technology.
Shafer, who spent more than two decades with 3M and most recently served as president of the conglomerate's automotive and aerospace solutions division, assumes the president post from Kevin Wheeler, who remains A.O. Smith's chairman and chief executive.
