Former U.S. Congressman and NFL Quarterback Heath Shuler to Join SHARx Rising Tides Army
Former U.S. Congressman and NFL Quarterback Heath Shuler to Join SHARx Rising Tides Army
SHARx, a patient advocacy and supply-chain management company addressing the nation’s out of control drug prices, announced today that former United States Congressman, University of Tennessee superstar, Heisman trophy finalist, and NFL veteran Heath Shuler is joining the SHARx Rising Tides Army. The Rising Tides Army is a booming grassroots movement in the healthcare space intent on reversing the overly inflated cost of prescription medications in America.
Shuler, who was featured on SHARx’s Rising Tides podcast, told SHARx CEO Corey Durbin, “I took some time away from politics and national issues to focus on my family. The time has now come to stand up and be a voice in an area of great need. I am incredibly enthusiastic about the impact SHARx is making in the health care space. Lifesaving and life-altering drugs should not just be available to an elect few. This was an issue when I was in Congress, and it is an even bigger problem now.”
Self-funded employers now find it increasingly difficult to offer health care that covers high-priced specialty medications and injectables. Specialty medications account for roughly 1% of volume, but over 50% of drug spend. Employers want their employees to have an advocate to help them source these un-covered drugs, and that is where SHARx shines on their behalf.
SHARx CEO Corey Durbin said, “There is a rising tide of people inside and outside the industry who are tired of being taken advantage of by so much markup but so little value being added. As a former Congressman, Heath knows better than most how the deck is stacked against consumers and small businesses, so we are happy to welcome him aboard in our mission remove the financial barriers.”
SHARx helps employers ethically provide access for the employees and families through their use of a myriad of sourcing solutions. With fiduciary plan oversight lawsuits presently in the courts, SHARx allows an employer to do what employees want them to do – manage the out-of-control cost of their drug spend through world class supply-chain management and procurement.
About SHARx

Members get the drugs they need and the employer stabilizes their health plan costs. SHARx charges a monthly subscription fee to the employer, creating a more equitable business agreement that offers unmatched savings for members and incredible flexibility for plan managers.
