Hartford MidCap's Morningstar Medalist Rating is now Under Review after the announcement that lead manager Phil Ruedi will leave subadvisor Wellington at year's end. He'll be replaced by Tim Egan, a partner at Wellington whose prior experience at the firm was as an analyst and portfolio manager on an international contrarian team that ran long-only and long-short strategies. Egan has served as a manager on this strategy for a brief period—since June 20, 2024—having joined the team as an analyst about a year before that. Poor performance has plagued this strategy since 2017, having outpaced the Russell Midcap Growth in just one calendar year out of the past eight, including 2024 so far. That has caused considerable client withdrawals: The fund has seen nearly $12 billion leave since 2019.
