With shares of wide-moat MSCI down 1% year to date to Aug. 19 versus up 16% for the Morningstar US Market Index overall, MSCI's shares have underperformed the market so far in 2024, and we view shares as now roughly fairly valued after several years of being materially overvalued. While the shares were down largely due to subscription cancellations and slowing growth in the ESG business, we believe the firm's asset-based fee business may provide upside.
