U.K. opens inquiry into Hewlett Packard Enterprise's $14 billion deal for Juniper
By Steve Goldstein
Britain's competition regulator on Wednesday said it's opened a merger inquiry into Hewlett Packard Enterprise's planned $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks.
The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority said it's inviting comments to be made by July 3, before facing a mid-August deadline for an initial decision.
The $40 per share acquisition was due to close late this year or early next, Hewlett Packard Enterprises said at the time of the deal's agreement.
Hewlett Packard Enterprises would owe Juniper a $815 million termination fee if the deal doesn't get regulatory approval.
Juniper shares (JNPR) closed Tuesday at $35.54. HP Enterprise (HPE) rose 1% on Tuesday and has gained 29% this year.
