Tesla Recalls Thousands of Cybertrucks Due to Safety Concerns
By Don Nico Forbes
Tesla is recalling thousands of Cybertrucks after a U.S. regulator reported safety issues with the windscreen wipers of certain vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall, which could potentially affect more than 11,000 Cybertruck vehicles, comes due to electrical issues with the windshield wiper motors, which were found to stop functioning due to electrical overstress.
"A non-functioning windshield wiper may reduce visibility in certain operating conditions, which may increase the risk of a collision," the regulator said.
In response, the electric-car maker agreed to replace the windshield wiper motor of affected vehicles at no charge to the customer.
Tesla didn't immediately return a request for comment.
The recall is the latest for the company in a number of months. Earlier in June, it faced the recall of certain Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X and Model Y vehicles due to seat belt issues. And in February, a recall affecting nearly all the electric vehicles sold in the U.S.--about 2.2 million vehicles sold between 2012 and 2024--were on the hook due to the font for some visual warnings light being too small.
