North American Morning Briefing: Nvidia Steadies -2-
The Democratic incumbent and his Republican rival will both be in the Georgia capital for the first presidential debate Thursday, putting a spotlight on the battle for the relatively new swing state and Trump's early polling advantage. Both campaigns say their ground-game operations will make the difference come November. But perhaps the biggest wild card is the involvement of Gov. Brian Kemp, whom Trump has made an enemy for not going along with his baseless claims of a stolen election in 2020.
Lauren Boebert's Latest Election Shock: She's Favored to Win
CASTLE ROCK, Colo.- After a tough year of embarrassing scandals, Rep. Lauren Boebert's jump to a new district may pay off Tuesday.
Six months after the bombastic two-term Colorado Republican announced she would move her political fortunes from the state's Western Slope to its Eastern plains and suburbs, Boebert has eclipsed her Republican primary rivals in fundraising and was 35 points ahead of the nearest one in a recent poll.
Will Jamaal Bowman Be the First 'Squad' Member to Fall?
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.-Rep. Jamaal Bowman is in danger Tuesday of becoming the first Democratic House member this cycle to lose a primary, hobbled by a series of missteps and a multimillion-dollar effort from pro-Israel groups to unseat him.
The two-term lawmaker and outspoken member of the House's "Squad" has taken stances on Israel and other issues that have pleased some progressives but rubbed other voters the wrong way. Polls show him trailing George Latimer, Westchester's popular county executive, prompting a push from allies to paint him as the victim of unfair attacks and heavy spending from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
Julian Assange Cuts Deal to Plead Guilty, Gain Freedom
WASHINGTON-Julian Assange is set to plead guilty this week in his U.S. espionage case, in an agreement that will allow the WikiLeaks founder to walk free after spending more than a decade holed up and imprisoned in London, largely to avoid being sent to the U.S.
Assange is expected to plead guilty to a felony charge of conspiring to obtain and distribute classified information, according to a court document and people familiar with the matter, over the website's publication of thousands of confidential U.S. military records and diplomatic cables about America's actions in Iraq and Afghanistan in the 2000s.
