U.S. Futures, European Stocks Rise
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.2% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 climbed 0.3% in morning trading. Jeronimo Martins rose 5% and A.P. Moeller-Maersk B added 3.4%. On the other hand, Deutsche Bank slipped 4.1%, and BAWAG Group lost 3.1%. The FTSE 100 added 0.4%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France's CAC 40 increased 0.3% and Germany's DAX climbed 0.2%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index fell 0.5% to 100.07.
In commodities, Brent crude dropped 0.9% to $87.45 a barrel, and WTI crude fell 0.8% to $83.14 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 2% to EUR28.32 a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield declined by 2 basis points to 2.56% from 2.579%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 2 basis points to 4.649% from 4.669%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were up. Markets in Japan were closed. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.5%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite gained 0.8%.
