Vanguard has reopened Vanguard Primecap following 20 years of limiting new money flowing into it. In the wake of strong client demand, the firm had prudently closed the fund in 2004 to preserve the fund’s ability to invest meaningfully in attractive mid- and small-cap stocks. With an asset base of more than $75 billion, it remains among the world’s biggest mutual funds. But steady redemptions over the years, combined with the investment team’s distaste for rapidly trading or pursuing hot stocks, provide capacity for new investors to buy it. The fund’s Morningstar Medalist Ratings are unchanged.
