American Funds' parent, Capital Group, announced that veteran manager Jeffrey Lager will step off American Funds Washington Mutual on April 1, 2024, and retire from the firm on July 1, 2024. Lager has spent 27 years of his 29-year career at Capital Group and has been a manager here since 2004. Coinciding with Lager's reduced role, Aline Avzaradel will be disclosed as a manager on April 1, 2024. Additionally, Alan Wilson will officially leave the fund at the end of 2024. In this case, Wilson is stepping back to focus on other firm duties. Management changes aren't unusual at American Funds as its multimanager system allows for them. Dividing each fund's asset base into individually run sleeves lets one manager depart and another join with relatively minimal disruption. While Avzaradel hasn't been at Capital Group as long as Lager, she has spent more than 19 years at the firm. She isn’t new to portfolio management, either, and has run sleeves of American Funds Capital Income Builder CAIBX and American Funds Investment Company of America AIVSX since 2016 and 2019, respectively. She also has run a sleeve in this strategy as an undisclosed manager for two years. These changes do not alter the strategy's High People rating or its Morningstar Medalist Ratings.
