The Week Ahead: Microsoft, IBM Earnings on Tap

Welcome to The Week Ahead.

We'll be diving into earnings seasons this week with results from across sectors.

Microsoft has been on a roll as it capitalizes on the growth of cloud computing, and we'll see if that trend has continued. IBM, which reports on Tuesday, on the other hand, has seen continued drag from low-margin legacy businesses.

Analyst Neil Macker thinks Netflix is trading well above its fair value estimate ahead of its earnings on Monday.

After several big banks reported last Friday, BlackRock, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Visa will round out the financial sector results.

Johnson & Johnson is due this week as the market is still trying to weigh how any potential changes to healthcare law will impact the industry.

And finally, General Electric will report Friday on the heels of the firm completing the oil and gas segment merger with Baker Hughes and the announcement that longtime CEO Jeff Immelt is stepping down.

Economic data is more limited, with housing starts and a few regional manufacturing gauges.
