Jeremy Glaser: Welcome to The Week Ahead. Second-quarter earnings season kicks off this week with results from several big banks.

Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo will all report on Friday. The results come on the heels of the Fed giving the major banks the all-clear on their capital plans after the central bank concluded its stress test and as investors ponder how higher rates and a changing regulatory environment will impact earnings.

PepsiCo will also report this week, and analyst Sonia Vora be looking to see if the firm's productivity initiatives and pricing push can boost margins.

The major data releases will be clustered on Friday. Retail sales will give a snapshot on the strength of the consumer, while the consumer price index will give an important update on inflation. Industrial production, consumer sentiment, job openings, and the Fed beige book are also due.

Stay tuned for our take on all of these stories.
