Abbvie's Crohn's Disease Drug Skyrizi Shows More Positive Results
By Katherine Hamilton
Abbvie's latest findings from a trial of its drug Skyrizi found that 36% patients with Crohn's disease achieved what it described as endoscopic remission, or a healing of the intestinal lining with little to no visible inflammation.
The drug company said Tuesday that the Phase 3 Affirm study built on previously reported efficacy results. Across subgroups 36% of patients who had ulcers at the start of the study were ulcer-free by the its conclusion. Among advanced therapy-naive patients, rates were higher with 45% achieving endoscopic remission and 49% achieving ulcer-free endoscopy.
Crohn's is a chronic, systemic disease that causes inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract, most commonly in the area between the small intestine and the colon, Abbvie said.
Subcutaneous induction with Skyrizi for adults with Crohn's is currently under regulatory review with the Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency.
