By Josh Beckerman
NextEra Energy's Florida Power & Light and Emera's Tampa Electric are working to restore power after Florida was hit by Hurricane Helene, while Duke Energy utilities are restoring service in Florida and contending with more than 1.3 million outages in the Carolinas as of Friday afternoon.
Duke Energy Florida's outage map showed more than 304,000 customers were recently without power. As of 7:30 a.m., power had been restored for nearly 198,000 Duke Energy Florida customers overall, with 402,000 outages at that time.
Tampa Electric's website indicated more than 44,000 customers were recently without power.
Southern Co. unit Georgia Power said Friday that as of 10 a.m., about 730,000 customers had outages, following restoration to more than 120,000.
Helene made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region late Thursday as a Category 4 hurricane and eventually weakened to a tropical storm.
