U.S. Futures Up Slightly, European Stocks Broadly Up

U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.2% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 climbed 0.8% in morning trading. Anglo American added 6% and Carl Zeiss Meditec climbed 5.9%. On the other hand, Smiths Group dropped 6.4%, and Saab AB Series B slipped 4.7%. The FTSE 100 added 0.5%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France's CAC 40 gained 1.3% and Germany's DAX climbed 0.8%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 95.92.

In commodities, Brent crude gained 1.2% to $74.09 a barrel, and WTI crude gained 1.4% to $71.33 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 0.6% to 36.42 euros a megawatt hour.

The German 10-year Bund yield climbed by 1 basis point to 2.168% from 2.157%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury climbed by 2 basis points to 3.773% from 3.751%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were up as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 0.6%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 4.1%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite climbed 4.2%.
