Sam's Club Eyes $19/Hr for Frontline Workers
By Dean Seal
Walmart-owned Sam's Club has unveiled a workforce compensation plan that is expected to have the average hourly wage for its associates topping $19 an hour.
The warehouse-club chain said its new plan expands the hourly rate increase for associates to between 3% and 6% based on years of service and sets predictable increase milestones.
"With these new compensation investments, the average hourly rate for Sam's Club associates is anticipated to be above $19, with the potential to earn thousands of dollars annually in bonuses," the company said.
Sam's Club said it has raised average hourly raises by almost 30% in the past five years.
The plan comes after what appears to have been a weak summer for hiring. Job growth rebounded in August from June and July levels that the government revised downward from initial reports, keeping the Federal Reserve on pace to cut rates this week.
