Canada Factory Shipments Rise 1.4% in July From June
By Robb M. Stewart
OTTAWA--Canadian manufacturing activity rebounded in July, driven by increased sales of petroleum and a recovery in chemical products.
Factory shipments rose 1.4% from the month before to a seasonally adjusted 70.97billion Canadian dollars, the equivalent of about US$52.23 billion, Statistics Canada said Monday. The advance was the strongest since May 2023.
The result topped the data agency's advance estimate for a monthly rise of 1.1%, and follows an upwardly revised 1.7% drop in June sales.
Compared with a year earlier, manufacturing sales in July were down 1.1%.
