Samsung Recalls Over 1 Million Electric Stoves in U.S.

Samsung Electronics is recalling more than one million electric stoves in the U.S. following reports of about 250 fires that have injured dozens of people and killed pets.

The recall covers 1.12 million Samsung slide-in electric ranges across 30 models that were manufactured between 2013 and 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday. The affected stoves have front-mounted knobs that can be turned on accidentally by people or pets, it said.

Samsung has received over 300 reports of unintentional activation of the knobs by humans or pets since 2013, according to the U.S. regulator.

The ranges were made in Thailand and were sold at Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe's and other appliance stores, as well as online at Samsung.com from May 2013 through August 2024 for between $1,250 and $3,050, it said.

Range owners can contact Samsung and get a free set of knob locks or covers to install for safety, the South Korean company said.
