Intangible Assets

Intangible assets are assets that cannot be physically identified, such as goodwill, patents, and trademarks.

Intangible assets lack physical form, and their market value is not easily obtained: they are usually unique and hence not traded in the marketplace.

Because price signals cannot be used to value an intangible asset, complicated valuation techniques often must be employed.
