Securities or other property or investment vehicles that are held by a third party and cannot be bought or sold until certain conditions, as established in a written agreement, are fulfilled. Escrow securities are commonly used by mining and oil companies when treasury shares are issued for new properties. The shares can only be bought and sold after permission by the authorities.
